Hooray we are glad to be back
Just a quick, photo-less blog as I'm using Mike's work computer as ours in locked in a cupboard and we can't get the key back from the colleague who's looked after it for us, til Friday. Oops.
Anyhow, we are glad to be back. We were a bit apprehensive before we came, wondering if we would miss family, friends, the cooler climate, the nice food, the lack of creepy crawlies (saw my first HUGE cockroach tonight coming out of our food cupboard), the roads and our own car etc. We do! I invested in thermometers in the UK and can now confirm that it is 31 degrees celsius day and night in every room. The air con gets it down to 26 degrees in the bedroom. It feels a lot cooler than before we went! It's humid and our house is damp, despite having been aired in our absence. The icing sugar was in a sealed container and is rock solid cos of the damp! Toys were mouldy.
But the flight went well and both boys excelled, and now it feels good to be back in our nice house (which has been well looked after), on our pretty street, with our lovely neighbours and friends. We've had an endless stream of visitors and are back in the swing of enjoying the community spirit and cross-culturalness of life here. Joe is also really happy to be back, and seems to have thrown off any slight unsettledness already that came from moving from home to home in the UK. That's a relief as we didn't know if he'd be upset to be back. The only problem is that he doesn't seem to want to go anywhere near a Tuk Tuk (he wants 'Mummy and Daddy's Car').
We were put in the deep end today, with my first day on my own with 2 boys and Mike leaving at 6.40am and arriving back 8.45pm. The day went well though, and I think Joe and I were both pleased to have our toys and routine back more than anything. The househelper was treasured today. Luke is doing well, feeding well, looking yummy, no complaints. Joe and I played with him for 20 minutes 'alert time' today which was nice as he doesn't often open his eyes when I've got time to stop. Think the fan helps him sleep!
We look back on the summer with great fondness and are grateful for all the lovely memories we have of our time with our family and friends. Thanks again to all who helped look after us. It was a great success - Luke arrived and is delightful.
